    FUNERAL SERVICES AT MOUNT ZION
    Retired Farmer Was Member of Prominent Covington Family

    Funeral Services for Joseph Henry Hicks, 79, member of a leading Covington family, were held Thursday, Oct. 9, at the Mt. Zion Methodist Church. Mr. Hicks, a retired farmer, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, in an Andalusia hospital. He was the father of Mrs. H.A. McDaniel, Home Economics teacher at Straughn School. Mr. Hicks was a native of Heard County, Georgia, but had been a longtime resident of the Straughn area.

    Officiating at the funeral were Rev. F.G. Hastings and Rev. Fletcher Wideman. Masonic rites were held at the graveside, with R.E. Martin serving as Worshipful Master. Music at the funeral was by the church choir accompanied by Miss Carol Tinsley. Serving as flower girls were members of the Straughn Chapter of Future Homemakers of America. Pallbearers were James Radford, George Mims, C.C. Bennett, Clyde White, Nolen Jones, and R.R. Wood.

    Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Eula Bell Hicks; two sons, J.B. Hicks, Andalusia and Raymond B. Hicks, Columbus, Missouri; five daughters, Mrs. McDaniel, Mrs. I.D. Barton, Mrs. L.C. Kelly and Miss Tera Bell Hicks, all of Andalusia, and Mrs. J.K. Blackwell, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; one sister, Mrs. D. Johns, Andalusisa; nine grandchildren and three greagrandchildren.

    Minnie Swint married John B. Smith on 26 September 1897 in Randolph County, Alabama. She was my GGmother. I don't know how many children they had, but Lois Smith(my Gmother) was their daughter. She married Phillip Mobley(my Gfather) in LaGrange, Georgia. Lois Died from influenza on 19 October 1935. She is buried at Hill View Annex in LaGrange. She is listed as Mrs. Phillip Mobley.2
