  HEZ BROWN DIES OF HEART TROUBLE
  Had Been Active Figure in Affairs Of This Community for Many Years.
  Hez Brown, one of the best known and most enterprising citizens in Northeast Missouri, died suddenly of heart trouble at his office in this city Wednesday morning shortly after 9 o'clock.
  Mr. Brown was born in St. Louis June 21, 1867, and came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Norton Brown, to Macon when a small child, spending all of his life here except a few years in Lexington, Ky. and Moberly, Mo.
  Practically all of his efforts have been directed along the line of the Farm Loan and Abstract business, in which he has been eminently successful. For a number of years he was secretary of the Rubey-Brown Bond and Mortgage Co., and later became secretary of the Rube Trust Co.
  In 1923 he organized the Equitable Joint Stock Land Bank and was elected its president, a position he held till the time of his death.
  Throughout his career he has been a tireless worker, devoting unstintingly of his time and ability to his business undertaking. Whatever he undertook, he worked at in a wholehearted manner that without exception achieved success.
  Aside from his personal business he took a keen interest in the welfare of his town and community, and could always be depended on the support any worthy cause.
  Shortly after reaching his office Wednesday morning he engaged in a conversation with H. J. Morris relative to some business matters, and when Mr. Morris was about to leave, started to walk with him to the door. After taking but a few steps he complained of a pain and leaned against a radiator to keep from falling. Mr. Morris and others in the office rushed to his assistance but he was dead before medical aid could reach him.
  With the death of Hez Brown Macon loses a most worthy citizen, and this whole section of the state a servant whose highest aim was to be of real service to those with whom he had dealings.
  He was united in marriage with Miss Margaret Hurst of Lexington, Kentucky, on January 4, 1893.
  His widow and six children, Bryan H. Brown of Macon; Mrs. Elizabeth S. Romjue of Hannibal; Robert M. Brown, Raymond D. Brown, Hez Brown, Jr., and Web M. Brown, survive Mr. Brown in his untimely death.
  Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Campbell, pastor of the Presbyterian church, will be held at the family residence on Pearl street this morning at 10:30.
  All business houses and banks of Macon are closing their doors for one hour, 10:30 to 11:30, during the funeral services.¹
