    Mrs. Hodnett passed away on Monday, November 28, 2011 at Chapman Healthcare Center. She was born on January 11, 1917 in Lineville, Alabama to James Furman Reeves and Minnie Lee Cummings Reeves. She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church. Mrs. Hodnett was a homemaker most of her life. She enjoyed gardening, canning vegetables, and baking the best pounds cakes, coconut pies, and lane cakes at Christmas. Mrs. Hodnett was also a very talented seamstress and loved to sew for her family and others.

    She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Rainwater (James) of Alexander City; son, Robert Hodnett (Sylvia) of New Site; grandchildren, Natalie Hogue (Gerald) of Tampa, FL, Derek Hodnett (Cathy) of Soddy Daisy, TN, Tim Grant (Melody) of New Site, and Traci Harper (Michael) and J.B. Rainwater both of Alexander City; great-grandchildren, Ben Hogue (Amanda), Laura Hogue, Caleb Hodnett, Aaron Hodnett, Emily Hodnett, Mitchell Harper, Kaytlynn Grant, and Thomas Grant.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Howard Hodnett; parents; sisters, Kathryn Reeves Allen and Margaret Reeves Alford; and brothers, Byron Reeves and Olin Reeves.2

    Funeral service for Mrs. Margaret Jane Reeves Alford, 89, of Alexander City, will be Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Rev. Vince Lee will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 15, 2011 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at Radney Funeral Home.

    Mrs. Alford passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Chapman Healthcare Center in Alexander City. She was born on July 6, 1922 in Lineville, Alabama to Furman Reeves and Minnie Cummings Reeves. Mrs. Alford was a charter member of Hillabee Baptist Church. She married Edward Lamar Alford on January 8, 1938. She worked for Russell Corp for 26 years as a sewing machine operator and Inspector at #9 until she retired on June 28, 1984. She also volunteered at Russell Medical Center for several years following her retirement. Mrs. Alford loved to sew and was a wonderful seamstress.

    She is survived by her sons, Charles Alford (Barbara) of Montgomery, John Paul Alford (Judy) of Memphis, TN, and David Lamar Alford (Natalie) of Wetumpka; granddaughter, Melissa Carol Alford of Memphis, TN; grandson, Matthew John Alford (Lisa) of Memphis, TN; and sister, Doris Hodnett of Alexander City.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lamar Alford; parents; sister, Katherine Allen; and brothers, Byron Reeves and Olin Reeves.

    Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Hillabee Baptist Church, 1781 Hialeah Circle, ?Alexander City, AL 35010-6701.

    She was a Charter Member of Hillabee Baptist Church, where she was head of the prayer chain, past Sunday School Teacher, Senior Adult Choir Member and WMU. She gave devotion to her Sunday School Class every Sunday. She worked as a homemaker and loved flowers and yard work. She loved her grandchildren, loved to be home and loved to write poetry.

    She is survived by her daughters, Janice Adair and husband Bobby and Patricia Reeves and Cathy Whatley and husband Mike, all of Alexander City; grandchildren, Jeff Adair of Birmingham, John Adair and wife Robin, Brady Whatley, and Maggie Whatley, all of Alexander City; great grandchildren, Connor and Camden Adair of Alexander City; brother, W.B. Harris, Jr. of Goodwater and several nieces and nephews.
