Subject: Picture of the young John Stewart

...The picture of the young John Stewart came from KathrynKerrKeen, daughter of Kate French Stewart Kerr and she was the daughter of James McGehee Stewart who was the son of John Stewart & America French Cole.
Well, I called and talked to Kathryn today and she told me about the picture. Her aunt, Lillian Priscilla Stewart had the picture and wrote on the back of the picture "Papa's Father". Kathryn said she inherited the pictures from her aunt. Lillian never married. John Stewart would be Lillian Stewartand Kate French Stewart Kerr's grandfather.

So.....based on that Inow feel that it is actually a picture of young John Stewart. Since Lillian lived with her father (James McGehee Stewart)until he died, then I am sure her father told her that the picture was of his father. I am sure tooit actually was James McGeheepicture first and when he died, since his daughter lived in the house she got all the pictures.

By the way Kathryn said the name is spelled McGehee....

"Sister Stewart joined the M. E. Church South when a child and lived more
than three quarters of a century a loyal member of the same. She was a student of the Bible, having made a practise of reading it through once a year.
"When the hour came for her private devotion she did not consider her
domestic duties nor even the company of her visiting children, an excuse for
omitting or even postponing this privilege, but would enter into her closet and keep company with her Lord in reading his word. Such a close walk with God can be no other than a life of devotion to the church and helpfulness to humanity. These two lights she kept on a candlestick and they gave light to all who knew her.
"She died as she lived which was triumphantly. Her last words were some
comforting passages of scripture, and then a request to those about her bedside to sing. They being slow to find a suitable song, she began `Saviour, more than Life to Me.' and sang it through, and then went to sleep on earth to awake in Heaven.
"Her children do rise up and call her blessed, because of the rich
inheritance, not earthly treasures, but more a good name she has left them. May her high ideal of a christian life and her beautiful example of devotion to her church be emulated and perpetuated by her children and neighbors. Her influence still lives and will never die; if watered with the dews of heaven found in daily prayer and devotion to God, her life can bear fruit an hundred fold on earth."
In a letter dated 7 March, 1885, she states her return address to be State LineGeo, and "there was the poorest crop here last year that ever has been since I have lived here which has been 48 years, but we must not murmur but trust in the good Lord, he knows what is best."..(so came to GA about 1837).
