  From Ottis Murphy: Claude was the first fire fighter on the scene at the 16th Street bombing in Birmingham.
  
  From Lisa Bannister: Claude was Captain of the fire department in B'ham and died swearing that there was no bomb in the 16th Street church where the little black girls died, but that the fire was caused instead by a gas furnace explosion. He was on the scene that day.^2,1
